Periodic Table Groups

Alkali Metals

Group 1 elements like lithium and sodium. Highly reactive with water and have one valence electron.

Alkaline Earth Metals

Group 2 elements such as calcium and magnesium. Reactive, but less so than alkali metals.

Transition Metals

Groups 3–12. Strong, shiny metals like iron and copper. Good conductors and used in many industries.

Halogens

Group 17. Very reactive nonmetals like chlorine and fluorine. Form salts with metals.

Noble Gases

Lanthanides

Rare earth metals used in electronics and magnets. Found in the top row below the table.

Actinides

Mostly radioactive elements like uranium and plutonium. Found in the second bottom row.

Metalloids

Elements with properties between metals and nonmetals. Examples include silicon and arsenic.

Other Nonmetals

Includes elements like carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen. Found on the right side of the table.
